Since most of my family has been sick this week and my brother is scheduled for surgery in a few days, I thought this would be a perfect topic to write about. This 10 second Protection Tip could literally save you from losing one of your most important body parts, especially if you are on your way to the hospital anytime soon.

What’s the one item most savvy surgeons carry into the pre-operating room that can mean all the difference between a quick recovery or a life-changing nightmare? The answer? An $.89 permanent marker – used on the patient’s skin to determine the correct procedure or body part that is the focus of the surgery.

Because today’s Doctors are so busy and sometimes jump from surgery room to surgery room performing consecutive operations… I would recommend you take your own marker to the hospital and mark your own body part with some sort of “reminder” for the surgeon.

For example, (This is for you Bro) if you’re having a gal stone removed, write “gal stone” on the area of your stomach where you feel the pain.

If you’re having knee surgery, write “Replace this knee” on the knee that needs to be replaced. I know it sounds simple, but you really shouldn’t take any short-cuts (sorry for the pun) when it comes to your body parts!

Wouldn’t you agree?

After all, if you lose a body part, it doesn’t grow back…ever. Not even a little bit…

Prepare, Prevent, Protect!
