Part 2 – Protecting Your Children
VEEDERSBURG, Ind. – A couple who ran a baby-sitting service out of their home videotaped themselves performing sex acts with children, some as young as 2 months old, police said.

Stephen E. Quick, 31, and Samantha Light, 25, both of Veedersburg in western Indiana, were being held on $100,000 bond in Fountain County Jail. Both faced preliminary charges of child molestation and child exploitation. Jail staff did not know whether either one had an attorney.

Police who searched the couple’s home found a videotape depicting sex acts involving Quick and Light and at least four different children between the ages of 2 months and 6 years old, said Fountain County Sheriff’s Deputy Bob Kemp.

“In 15 years of doing this job, it’s the worst thing I’ve ever seen or imagined,” he told WRTV. “Just horrible, just horrible It’s a new low.”

Police searched the couple’s home after the parents of a 3-year-old girl reported that she told them Quick and Light had touched her inappropriately and photographed her at their home on Feb. 28.

Deputies seized several computers, cameras, a video camera, pornographic materials, drugs and drug paraphernalia. Several sex toys that appeared in the video were seized during a second search, police said.

Quick and Light were arrested March 5. Neither has a criminal history.

Authorities have removed the couple’s daughter from their home.

Sexual Predator Found Guilty!

By professor · Friday, March 13th, 2009 · No Comments »

This is Part # 1 of several posts related to the topic of protecting your children.

This week, a defendant in Riverside, Ca. was found guilty of attempted child molestation. He was one of 51 men snagged by Dateline’s “To Catch A Predator” investigation two years ago. If you have not seen this investigation yet… STOP everything you are doing and watch it now!

Here’s a great clip from the investigation about a math teacher who claims to be a Christian. Math Teacher Busted

I love Chris Hansen’s question, “Where is this found in the bible? The Old Testament or the New?”

It’s worth repeating that 51 men were caught during just this one investigation. That’s pretty scary!

And the variety of backgrounds from these guys was very diverse. Teachers, counselors, businessmen, and even a peace officer.

Whether you agree with the way this investigation was conducted (some say it was entrapment) or not… it’s a reality check !

There are some sick people in this world. And they won’t think twice about making your son, daughter, or loved one a victim.

Never forget that it’s your job to protect your children! It’s my job to remind you! :)

Be safe!

Why You Should Never Use A Combination Lock

By professor · Monday, March 9th, 2009 · 1 Comment »

Did you know that in 1878 a German man invented the modern combination Lock for Tiffany’s Jewelers in New York City?

Pretty interesting, if you think about the applications of a combination lock today.

I don’t think any jewelers would trust the security of a combination lock anymore.

And you shouldn’t either! Here’s why…

Professor of Protection Gets 2 Thumbs Up!

I love my twin daughters more than anything else in life! They are such a blessing.

I never hesitate to remind them that my job is to “take care of them” and protect them from the dangers of our world.

Of course it never gets old hearing them say how much they love me as well.

Tonight, one of them (Sky) couldn’t sleep and needed to “wet her whistle” with a drink of water.

She has used this “excuse” numerous times lately to convince me why she is out of bed and in the kitchen. :)

She needed me to hold her “like a baby” and help her go to sleep. Of course I gave in and wrapped her up like a little burrito in a warm blanket.

Then the moment came…

She looked at me and said,”Daddy… I love you! You always take care of me & my sister! I feel safe!”

Then she gave me the “thumbs up” (see photo above)

and proceeded to fall asleep in a flash!

Being a Dad is the best! I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world!

Goodnight!

Robbed of Her Life…Chapel Hill Remembers Eve Carson

Thursday will mark the one year anniversary of the murder of University of Carolina at Chapel Hill student body president, Eve Carson. The murder, which occurred only 45 minutes away from Elon, affected the surrounding community and woke students up to the reality that even a beautiful college campus can be dangerous.

Unfortunately, it’s the world we live in today.

You can read more about her life at Eve’s Biography.

Carson was found lying on a street about a mile from the UNC campus after having been shot five times, including once in the temple, according to an autopsy report released last summer.

The popular television show, American Idol, provided a forum for contestant “Anoop” to tell America her story. It  has definitely sparked an interest in this senseless crime.

Laurence Alvin Lovette, 18, and Demario James Atwater, 22, were both charged with first-degree murder in Carson’s case.

The university held a memorial ceremony Thursday in remembrance of Carson. It will include remarks by UNC’s chancellor, Holden Thorp.

“For many of us, the loss of Eve Carson continues to occupy our thoughts,” Thorp said in a news release. “This ceremony gives us a chance to remember and celebrate Eve together after a difficult year.”

Say a prayer for her family & friends.

I’ll be posting more about campus safety in the near future, but for now…

Remember…

Be safe…have a plan… and be prepared to use it!

Protecting Our Freedom

I spent the past few days with some special men.

Real American Heroes!

Men responsible for protecting and preserving our freedom.

Men full of courage, honor, bravery, and duty to their country.

Men who have paved the way for future generations.

Who am I talking about, you ask?

I’m describing the distinguished Medal of Honor Recipients.

Read more about them at this website: www.medalofhonor.com

These guys are the real deal! And we can’t ever forget about them or what they did for our country.

There are only 98 living recipients today. Many of them (those that are healthy enough) travel around the country raising money for scholarships and local charities. They unselfishly give their time and energy helping others.

I’d never minimize the ability of our modern day troops in any way but these guys fought a different kind of war back then. Wars where battlegrounds were taken and conquered literally foot by foot… inch by inch. Today’s technology is so much more sophisticated. Air strikes, drones, and remote controlled bombers are just a few things that come to mind. (Or course, we’re fighting a different enemy today)

When you read this post, or you’re printing out a family photo…just remember that the Medal of Honor Recipients, our Veterans, and our active troops in the Armed Forces are the reason we can freely do these things in the protection and comfort of our homes.

I don’t know about you, but it’s a pretty good feeling to me. :)

God Bless America!

Would you expose your “muffin top” in exchange for Security?

To Be Exposed…Or Not To Be Exposed…Hmmm? (Sorry, ladies, if you’re offended by this image. It’s a real sample.)

airport_xray_scanner1This week kicked off the use of a controversial new “body image “scanner at Tulsa International Airport.

The new scanner is designed to look through clothing in search of non-metallic weapons &  explosives.

Sounds like a great step towards tighter security measures at the airport… butt …(intentional pun)

there is some controversy! When you pass through this scanner, the shape of your body is no longer a secret!

Government officials claim that your image is stored only long enough for a TSA employee to scan the image, then it’s deleted.

They promise it would never end up on the internet… ??? They also promise that your face will be

blurred in the image. They even go as far as saying , “You are not exposed as much as you think”.

Do you believe all that? Hmmm?? Take another look at that picture above. I’m not so sure.

I’m all for tighter security, but I don’t know about trusting some of these promises.

The scanners are expensive… 170k vs. 10k for a metal detector. They seem to be working very well so far.

Butt… do you want the outline of your body exposed to the whole world (OK, maybe just the TSA)?

Muffin tops, hidden bulges, pot bellies, “pooches”, etc. will be revealed like never before… :)

But your flight would probably be a lot safer, as well!

What do you think?

Would you trade “exposure” for tighter security?

Be safe!

Top 5 Tips To Protect Yourself From An Alligator Attack

What if an alligator just showed up at your front door on your vacation?alligator-at-door-main_full

Can you imagine???

(Don’t worry… class is in session!)

I was visiting with some friends yesterday who just returned from Florida. The topic of “Alligators & Crocodiles” came up.

Since my girls really want to visit DisneyWorld someday soon, I began thinking about how I would defend them/us from an unexpected attack by one of these giant water lizards.

And since this blog is about safety, security, & protection… I wanted to share my findings with my readers.

Here’s what a certified “alligator safety” expert has to say about being prepared… vs. being consumed:

First, you must understand why alligators are so angry. If you liked the movie, WATERBOY… the answer was simply explained,

“They got all them teeth, and no toothbrush!” :)

A few things you’ll need to prepare:

Hockey Game Security…Who’s Protecting Who?

By professor · Monday, February 23rd, 2009 · No Comments »

Went to an ice hockey game this week. I had a great time but I couldn’t help but

wonder about the “security factor” of the game as I was leaving the building.

Take a look at this video real quick…it’s only 40 seconds long. I’ll wait.

Hockey Fight

WOW… that was brutal, wasn’t it? Well… at the game tonight, the fight that broke

out was 10 times worse! Read the rest of this entry »

Face The Music Rhianna…Move On!

By professor · Friday, February 20th, 2009 · No Comments »

Chris Brown may need more protection than Rhianna! Sooner or later he’s going to have to “face the music” and realize that he probably made a HUGE mistake by using the beautiful Rhianna as a punching bag. What was he thinking???

I’m not a big fan of guys that beat up their girlfriends. Or any man… that’s roughs up any woman for any reason! It’s just not normal.

I hope most of you agree with my opinion. I’m also not one to judge Hollywood stars or popular musicians, but I think Chris may have some splainin’ to do. Don’t you?

The average Joe that thumps his girlfriend the way that has been reported in this case would promptly receive a new pair of shiny , silver bracelets (handcuffs)  and thrown into the general population at the county jail. Why should this guy get to skate?

I read a quote from Rhianna’s father today…

Among other things, he said, “If I were her, I’d move on!”

Amen Dad… Good advice!

Be safe!
