TODAY’S LESSON: Protect your vehicle registration tags!

ca-plate

Ok folks…I don’t know about you , but I hate paying my vehicle registration fees. Especially when the cost just went UP!

I just received my 2009 registration tags… and when I put them on my car, it reminded me of how vunerable they are to getting swiped.

Yep… it’s true… there are plenty of thieves roaming the parking lots and residential neighborhoods of America looking for just the right vehicle to steal the tags from a license plate.

Will your car be one of them?

Not if you read today’s lesson about a simple piece of metal that will virtually eliminate the risk of losing your tags… forever! Read the rest of this entry »

3 Pittsburgh Officers Killed…Gunman Survives

By professor · Saturday, April 4th, 2009 · No Comments »

Our hearts and prayers go out to the families, friends, and co-workers of three Pittsburgh Police Officers killed in the line of duty today.

The gunman was reported to be “lying in wait” as the Officers responded to a domestic disturbance.

Sounds accurate considering the fact he was wearing a bullet-proof vest and shot two of the Officers in the head. The gunman survived return fire and was taken into custody with a wounded leg.

The reason he provided for the killings?

The suspect feared “the Obama gun ban that’s on the way” and “didn’t like his rights being infringed upon,” said Edward Perkovic, his best friend.

Doesn’t seem fair…does it?

This tragedy comes only 2 weeks after 4 Oakland Police Officers were killed by a lone gunman.

That’s just way too many officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in a 15 day span.

As a reminder, there are over 19,000 men & women who have died in the line of duty protecting the streets of America. Read more about them here.

Think about that number for a minute………………… 19,000! WOW!

We should always remember how much courage and bravery it takes to perform their job on a daily basis.

Take a minute to thank a member of Law Enforcement when you have a chance this week or in the near future.

They deserve some positive recognition!

Be safe!

Missing Child…Who’s Fault…Mom or Dad?

By professor · Thursday, April 2nd, 2009 · 3 Comments »

We took the girls to see Disney On Ice last night. (Great seats… thanks to IE Mommy’s connections!)

What a great show! We really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, so did the “Mom & Dad” sitting near us…

In fact, they enjoyed it so much, neither one of them saw their 3 year old daughter leave her seat, walk up the aisle, and disappear into a crowd of thousands of other guests! Talk about “clueless”!

Here’s the scenario…and you tell me who was at fault…. Mom or Dad? Read the rest of this entry »

The Last Zebra

Here’s a quick safety lesson for the kids:

zebra_22We recently visited the “Happiest Place On Earth”… during the week of Spring Break! What were we thinking? :)

Disneyland is a magical place for children, but it can also be a challenging time to keep your kids close to you at all times.

My wife came up with a cute phrase that tells the girls it’s time to close the gap between them and us.

All she needs to say is “The Last Zebra” and the girls quickly move within arms reach of Mom or Dad. Read the rest of this entry »

3 Reasons to Retire “Stranger Danger”

By professor · Friday, March 20th, 2009 · 2 Comments »

strangerdanger1-250x187

So what does “Stranger Danger” really mean?

When questioned, children will often describe a “stranger” as someone who is “ugly or mean”.

They don’t perceive nice-looking or friendly people as “strangers.”

And that’s the problem. Because we all know that good looking, nicely dressed people can be just as dangerous to our children… if not more dangerous than the obvious, “ugly” ones.

The folks at The National Center For Missing & Exploited Children feel it’s time to get rid of this message once and for all.

Here’s Why:

1. Kids Don’t Get it

2. Adults Don’t Practice It

3. It Doesn’t Go Far Enough To Protect Our Children

Think about this comment from their National Safety Director:

When we tell children to “never talk to strangers,” we have effectively eliminated a key source of help for them if they are in trouble. If they’re lost they may be surrounded by many “strangers” who could conceivably help them if they would only ask for it. Since we know parents and guardians can’t be with their children every second of the day, we need to give children “safety nets” of people they can go to if they need help. Those individuals may include uniformed law-enforcement or security officers; a store salesperson with a nametag; the person in an information booth at a mall or other public venue; or a mother with children.

Makes a lot of sense. Maybe “Stranger Danger” does need to take an early retirement.

Practice these tips with your kids. It can literally mean the difference between life & death.

Remember… it’s your job to protect your children!

Prepare. Prevent. Protect.

frankenstein

You’ve heard the saying “There’s a sucker born every minute!”… right?

Well… there’s a good reason why that term has become a foundation for many professional thieves and con artists. The underlying motivation for both sides of the scam is GREED!

I wanted to drive home this point by listing the Top 10 Con Artists of our time.

It’s hard to imagine that the victims actually fell for these scams… but they did.

Over… and over… and over! (Who would really think they could buy the Statue of Liberty???)

Take a look at what these “Frankensteins of Fraud” were caught “selling” to those who were dumb enough to believe.
