1200 Laptops Disappear Every Week At LAX!
Today’s Lesson: Protecting Your Laptop.
Read that headline again… 1200 every week! That seems a little ridiculous… but I was able to verify through an inside source that those numbers are pretty accurate… so listen up… especially if you are visiting LAX anytime in the future.
1200 every week equals an amazing 624,000 laptops disappear every year! WOW!
Where do they go? Into someone else’s hands!
Only a third of all laptops left behind in an airport ever make it back to their original owner.
That means the remaining PCs wind up in the hands of a thief or in a pile of unclaimed electronics.
Here’s a few tips to keep your laptop safe at the airport:
1. Write your name and phone number inside the battery compartment. This is the first place TSA Agents will search for any information about the laptop.
2. Make your laptop look unique. Customize the heck out of it, so it looks unattractive to a thief!
3. Consider using tracking software. There are several companies that sell affordable products that can trace an IP address or assist Law Enforcement with finding your computer. A few of the popular companies are Computrace and Lojack.
Use your noggin’ when inside an airport: Keep your laptop next to you at all times and you’ll never lose it!

56 Reasons To Be Thankful For Our Freedom
Today’s Lesson: Remembrance of the brave men who signed the Declaration of Independence!
Ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?
Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists, eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners: well educated men,
but they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured.
Five signers were captured by the British as traitors,and tortured before they died.
Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.
Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured.
Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.
They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.
WOW!
Let’s never forget these brave men and their wives, for the sacrifice they made for our country!

Fighting Crime with Flower Power
Today’s Lesson: A creative way to fight crime!
Three years ago, a Tokyo neighborhood was experiencing a huge increase in burglaries. In fact, they had a record number of break-ins with over 1700 in one year alone! Time to get busy… and get creative. Soon after, “Operation Flower” was born!
City officials realized there were fewer burglaries on flower-lined streets, so they decided to ask volunteers and residents to plant flowers in front of their homes and on side streets in their neighborhoods. Their thinking was based on the concept that with more flowers facing the streets, more people would be keeping an eye out while watering or taking care of the flowers.

Victim of On-Line Rapist Bites Back!
Today’s Lesson: The Dangers of On-line Dating!
A registered sex-offender is now in custody…after allegedly raping a female he recently met on-line!
The suspect is in custody because he showed up at a local hospital with a large portion of his tongue missing…(and bleeding!)
Unfortunately for him, the Police had possession of the remainder of his tongue after the victim apparently bit it off during an attempt to defend herself from the attack. (Sorry pal… looks like you had it coming!)
There’s a lot more to this story… but I think the main lesson here is pretty obvious:

“Plastic Goo” Protects U.S. Soldiers
Plastic Goo? Yeah… I know. You’re wondering what plastic goo is all about, right?
It’s also known as Silly String. And it’s saving lives in Iraq. In a very unique way…
Who would imagine that a can of silly string may save the life of an American Soldier in Iraq?
It’s a simple but innovative idea. Our soldiers use the stuff to detect trip wires attached to bombs.
The silly string, also known as party, crazy or color string, comes in a pressured container and squirts out as long strands of “plastic goo.”
Before entering a building, troops squirt the plastic goo, which can shoot strands about 10 to 12 feet across the room.
The bomb wires are nearly invisible to the naked eye. If the feather-light silly string hangs in the air, the troops know they have a problem.
If it hits the floor, then there are no wires. Onward.
I can’t help but visualize the inventor of the highly sophisticated explosive (IED) screaming in frustration when our troops began using this toy aerosol “weapon” to prevent injury or death. It must have been a blow to the ego…
Pretty innovative. Very creative. Thinking outside the box.
Gives a whole new meaning to a can of silly spray, doesn’t it?

Teenager Robs Cafe…Then Eats His Gun!
True story…
A half-brained 17 year old boy walked into an internet cafe and demanded money from the owner.
He did not display an actual weapon… but simulated a gun in his waistband. Typical M.O. for bad guys who are trying to make a quick buck.
Apparently, the owner of the cafe and a customer didn’t feel very threatened because they jumped on the robber and controlled him before law enforcement arrived.

Bullet-Proof Bras
Ok… nobody needs to panic. This is a “family” blog, so it’s safe to keep reading! I promise.
A Detroit (where else could this happen?) woman credits her bra with saving her life this week when it deflected a bullet shot by an armed robber.
Apparently, the 57 year old woman tried to break-up two suspects who were robbing her neighbor, and one of them took a shot at her.
The bullet hit the underwire of her bra and literally saved her life. She was hospitalized…but is expected to recover.
Seems like she was pretty lucky…don’t you think? By the way… the bad guy got away on this one.
Perhaps her bra wasn’t a “real” bullet-proof undergarment, but protective clothing seems to be a trend on the minds of others… Read the rest of this entry »
Don’t Make These Mistakes When You Have A 9-1-1 Emergency
TODAY’S LESSON: Three 9-1-1 Tips That Will Save Lives!
Here’s a small but mighty list of tips that are very important guidelines to follow when calling emergency services:
1. Teach your children and others to remember 9-1-1… not nine eleven. Lives may be lost if the caller wasted time looking for the number “11″ on a phone keypad.
2. Use 9-1-1 only when there is a real emergency. Call when someone is very ill, if there is a fire, or a burglar is breaking into your home.
So many calls to 9-1-1 are unnecessary. Like this example a few days ago: A woman called 911 to report that a Chinese restaurant would not refund her money when she didn’t like the taste of her food! Give me a break!
3. If you dial 9-1-1 by accident, don’t just hang up. Stay on the line and explain your mistake. This will put the dispatcher at ease, knowing there isn’t a life threatening emergency on the end of the line. If you want to practice dialing 9-1-1 with your children, just unplug the phone and then you can “role play” without making an actual call for help.

Navy Seals 3… Somali Pirates 0
TODAY’S LESSON: Recognize when you’re outgunned!
Do these “pirates” really want to take on the Navy Seals??
Do these guys know the Navy Seal slogan is… “The Only Easy Day Was Yesterday!“?
I’m not too sure what these four dummies were thinking when they boarded a vessel flying the American Flag, but I do know three of them won’t be hi-jacking much of anything anymore.
The word is, when the pirates realized we refused to negotiate and wire 2 million bucks to their secret accounts, they counter-offered us with a request to “just release us without the ransom”.
Sorry pal… too late for last minute negotiations. A short time later, we rescued our Captain and the pirates “expired”. They should’ve realized they were going up against the the finest Navy in the world!
