Don’t Make These Mistakes When You Have A 9-1-1 Emergency
TODAY’S LESSON: Three 9-1-1 Tips That Will Save Lives!
Here’s a small but mighty list of tips that are very important guidelines to follow when calling emergency services:
1. Teach your children and others to remember 9-1-1… not nine eleven. Lives may be lost if the caller wasted time looking for the number “11″ on a phone keypad.
2. Use 9-1-1 only when there is a real emergency. Call when someone is very ill, if there is a fire, or a burglar is breaking into your home.
So many calls to 9-1-1 are unnecessary. Like this example a few days ago: A woman called 911 to report that a Chinese restaurant would not refund her money when she didn’t like the taste of her food! Give me a break!
3. If you dial 9-1-1 by accident, don’t just hang up. Stay on the line and explain your mistake. This will put the dispatcher at ease, knowing there isn’t a life threatening emergency on the end of the line. If you want to practice dialing 9-1-1 with your children, just unplug the phone and then you can “role play” without making an actual call for help.
That’s all folks!
